The use of data stored digitally to track student progress has been one of most important developments in education over the last twenty years. But what does it really tell us?

Dr. John Taylor argues for greater emphasis to be given to Project-based Thinking in assessment, suggesting that data from exam-style tests might be misleadinng in the first place. Dr. Nigel Winnard and Matthew Savage wonder if all the assessment data in the world can shine any kind of  light on what really happens in effective classrooms all the time.

Andrew ‘Bernie’ Bernard lifts the lid on the ‘manbox’ to reveal the worrying world of online ‘masculine’ influencers, while David Ardley argues that new partnered international schools should avoid the ‘clone trap’ when planning their strategic growth.

The gender imbalance in school leadership is nothing short of a scandal. Dr.  Denise Brohm has some practical suggestions for addressing the situation. Is there a growing tendency for adolescent students to ‘opt out’ of learning in lessons? if that’s what you are seeing, Dr. Alexis L. Hamlor has a simple 5-step approach for reintegration.

Finally, countries like Georgia are becoming far more ambitious for their educational systems. Medea Abramishvili’s insight into what is needed for effecting transformation is timely.
