BISLN

BISLN

BRITISH & INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS LIBRARY NETWORK

Connecting, sharing, supporting

WHY BISLN?

Rarely working in a large faculty team, librarians learn to be resilient and to support each other. Regional and city networks are vital, but these are not always accessible to colleagues working in towns or countries with fewer international or English-language schools.  Established networks can also gain by becoming globally connected with each other.

We are a community open to all – and it is our view we all have a great deal to learn from each other, whether as trained librarians, former teachers,  parent volunteers or affiliated experts.

WHAT WE DO

We are a truly international community which meets regularly from October through June  to share ideas, provide mutual support and listen to each other.

Our live online professional development and networking programme features experts in their field and guest speakers. Networking and PD sessions are timed to help our members to participate wherever they are.

School and Affiliate Membership gives access for all your team to PD and networking sessions, recordings and associated resources.

Take part in our regular discussion groups with colleagues across the globe and enjoy being part of an international network that puts libraries at the heart of every school, large and small.

Consilium Education also publishes International Teacher Magazine, which regularly features articles about school libraries, books, reading and research. Here are some of the latest. We’d love to publish your story too!  Just drop us a line!

the BISLN COMMUNITY

The fundamental aim of BISLN is to help our members share ideas through our common, interactive platform in order to place libraries at the very centre of school life.

May 14th and June 4th PD

Our Term 3 PD sessions take place on Wednesday May 14th and Wednesday June 4th, both starting at 08.00 UK time for the Eastern Hemisphere and 15.00 for the West. In the first session Sal will look at effective secondary library sessions and on the 4th Andy will lead a panel discussion on project-based learning and libraries.

Resources

Subscribe to BISLN as a school for access to our members’ page with its webinar recordings, book lists, free resources, links to useful websites and more!

Our library

We invite BISLN members to take us to their library, show us what’s new, what’s going on and how their library gets involved in school life.

Libraries & me

School leaders talk to us about books, their library memories and the importance of school libraries for learning and wellbeing.
