Critical friendship 2017-2018
Consilium’s Critical Friendship programme provides a wide range of services to international schools as they prepare for inspection or accreditation. Our visits in 2017-2018 have included reviews of EAL, Early Years and and safeguarding provision at leading schools in Egypt, Bangladesh, Indonesia, UAE, Belgium and Portugal.
Elly Tobin: English as an Alternative Language (EAL) across the curriculum.
Elly Tobin supported teachers and reviewed curriculum provision at two schools – the British School Jakarta and Ajman Academy – as both sought to develop their understanding of EAL across the curriculum, an area of growing importance in international schools throughout the world. An expert in the field, Elly was formerly Director of the Sacred Heart School in Tokyo and is now Principal of the Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College, a finalist for the title of TES 6th Form College of the year, 2017.
Tony Richards: Early Years and Safeguarding reviews
Tony Richards conducted a week-long review of the EYFS provision at the British International School Cairo (BISC) in February, looking at curriculum provision, facilities and leadership structures. Tony, previously Head of Primary at the Alice Smith School in Kuala Lumpur and Head at Clifton HS in Bristol also conducted safeguarding training for staff at a new British School in Bucharest as the school prepared to apply for COBIS membership.
