Regional STEM Education event highlights cross-border tech strengths in Ireland’s North West

DSCF4088 (800x600)Consilium Education’s Andy & Jan Homden attended CultureTECHfest, a major week long IT festival and exhibition held in Derry / Londonderry in Northern Ireland during September. This growing event, which showcases the STEM subjects and their relationship with the arts, is held in a a variety of locations across the city, including the Guildhall and the newly redeveloped Ebrington Barracks site, now linked to the city side by the Peace Bridge.

ISL is going through a period of growth in student numbers and is engaged in the development of a new Year Leader system in the secondary school.

Peter Hudson joined Andy and Jan Homden as part of the Consilium delegation attending the ECIS administrators conference at the Crowne Plaza, Brussels in April. The theme of the Conference, Catalysing Creativity was a theme picked up in a pre-conference article by Andy who looked at the kind of conditions which might enhance creative talent across the curriculum in a 21st Century school.

Exploring the future of school architecture

Building-Future-Learning-Spaces-TextLogoConsilium Education CEO, Andy Homden chaired Informa’s Building Future Learning Spaces conference held at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Dubai from March 23rd – 25th. Prakash Nair president of architects Fielding Nair International set the tone for the conference with an exhilarating address in which he challenged delegates to rethink their approach to the design of learning spaces in school. His plea was for flexibility in the use of space, which needed to open a child’s horizons rather than limit them with  the traditional “box and corridor” design.
