British International School of the Year

Efforts recognised

The British School Kathmandu (TBS) has recently won three of the eleven 2017 British International School Awards – ‘Community Initiative of the Year’, ‘Senior Leadership Team of the Year’ and ‘British International School of the Year 2017’.

TBS was established in 1966 in Kathmandu to seek “to develop healthy and happy, well-rounded individuals who are confident, thoughtful, adaptable and able to embrace and influence an ever-changing world”.

Their 50th anniversary year has been a remarkable one for the school which has recently received three accolades.

Community Initiative of the Year

This award recognises community initiatives. TBS works work with around 30 community partners in Nepal on an ongoing basis. A wide range of staff, students, parents, governors and friends are involved. The Award was for the range and quality of community partnerships and for their achievements.

Community liaison starts with the youngest children playing and sharing with the children of Suryodaya School and from then until they leave the school, every TBS student will work with community partner organisations. This work involves numerous activities embedded into the curriculum and calendar.

Senior Leadership Team of the Year

It would not be unfair to say that the last eighteen months have been as challenging for Nepal as any in their history. TBS has not been immune to these difficulties yet, throughout this period, the leadership team at TBS has worked with colleagues across the school to achieve excellence in all areas. Despite the challenges faced, the school was judged to be outstanding in the BSO Ofsted report of March 2016 and continued to innovate and extend its services, delivering excellent results at all levels, serving the community diligently and ensuring children were happy and safe.

British International School of the Year

As winners in the two categories above, TBS was automatically entered into the British International School of the Year category. Principal John Moore was delighted:

“Considering the quality of British International Schools worldwide, we were delighted to be awarded School of the Year 2017 and feel honoured to receive such a prestigious title. This Award is a wonderful celebration of what has been an amazing experience over the last few years and a great way to mark our 50th anniversary year!”

ITM was talking to Nancy Khetan, communications officer at TBS.
